Friday 15th October

It was so lovely to see so many of you at the Phonics and Reading Information Meetings this week. The slides and resources from the meetings will be available on the website by the end of the week.

The children in Year 2 have had such a busy start to the school year. We have been focusing on our new school rules: Be safe. Be kind. Be your best. We use the house points system to reinforce this throughout the school day and the class have responded so well this. We have specific goals to reach each day where children can win prizes-a sticker, a play activity, prize raffle entry or a note home. The children have been really motived by this and have enjoyed watching their house points add up each day.

Our writing learning this term has been around our dragons topic and we are looking forward to making our guide to caring for your pet dragon next week. In Maths we have been focusing on understanding of place value and tens and ones in 2 digit numbers as well as addition and subtraction up to 100. Phonics is still taught daily in year 2 and we are recapping learning from Y1 at the moment.

Home learning should be well underway now and just this is a reminder of what we expect each week:

  • daily reading of school book (5 mins)
  • spelling practise throughout the week (at least 3 x 5 mins)
  • Doodle Maths throughout the week

Please do let us know if you have any questions with home learning or if there is anything that you are not sure of-we are always available to chat to you at the end of the school day.
